I truly can’t believe that today is  Lily’s 9 month mark. It’s crazy to me that in 3 months, I’ll be her mama for a whole year. The cliche saying that “the days are long, but the years are short” couldn’t be ringing any truer in my brain. Lily has such a big personality and is so active. She’s definitely a busy body, and it keeps this mama in shape (LOL who needs hot yoga when your baby is learning to walk and crawl?!). She babbles all throughout the house and it makes our home so joyful and happy. Jacob is convinced that she says “Dada,” but I’m still holding out for “Mama.”

My sweet friend Elizabeth of Elizabeth Jones Photography  is rebranding her company, and boy did she pull at this mama’s heart strings when I received mine and Lily’s gallery. We shot in Elizabeth’s beautiful new studio, and it was the perfect combination of cozy, light, and airy. Anyway, I think she captured  mine and Lily’s bond so perfectly. They’re the type of photos that I can imagine Lily pulling out to show her children and grandchildren which OBVIOUSLY makes this mama tear up. Kailey and I always loved the times that Nana would pull out old photos of her mama and homecoming dance pictures with her and Poppa, and good gosh I just love it. Pictures are so important to us, and I hope that Lily will love them just as much as I do.

When it comes to choosing outfits for family photos, there’s definitely some things you want to keep in mind. Nowadays most people are moving toward more lifestyle portraits rather than the dreaded “white shirt and jeans” family pictures, so you want to wear something that you feel comfortable yet pretty in. If you’re taking pictures with other people, coordinate with your peeps by sticking with a few colors (grey, white, blush, etc.). You don’t all have to wear the exact same thing, but you want to be cohesive. Since Lily and I were taking more of a lifestyle session, I chose to stay in the neutrals family by wearing this super pretty and soft maxi with Lily in a complimenting dress from Zara. I know years from now when I look back on these pictures, I won’t think “Holy moly  what was I thinking?!”

My dress is unavailable (DON’T KILL ME), but I’ve linked some other great options for taking family photos or a “mommy and me” session for mama!
